SYTYCD: Picking the Top 10

So You Think You Can Dance: Results Show
I wasn't planning on blogging about this episode, but I'm so pleased with myself for calling the bottom three that I just wanted to gloat.

Maybe Nigel should consider that Kherington and Twitch made the bottom three because they're not as big of "favorites" to America as they are to the judges. Or maybe that tango just stunk so badly that no one could bring themselves to vote for them.

I think it's interesting who the top three couples couples have turned out to be at this stage of the competition. Mark/Chelsie, Courtney/Gev, and Joshua/Katee have all turned out consistently good performances throughout the competition. And most of them haven't gotten any (or at least not very much) undo favoritism shown to them by the judges. I'd say that this week, America got it exactly right.

Pre-solo observations:
Guys--Thayne's gone no matter what. He's been in the bottom three too many times, and there's no way the judges are going to eliminate either Will or Twitch.

Girls--Kherington will get a free pass: it's down to Comfort and Jessica.

Solos:

Comfort: Lots of jogging around and nothing we haven't seen before or find particularly impressive.

Thayne: Also displaying nothing we haven't seen before, but I guess that's understandable since he's had to do solos week after week after week.

Jessica: I'm just concerned that she's going to fall out of the top of her dress. The solo was better than the last one she did, but still not very exciting. Can someone explain to me why the judges put her in the top 20 in the first place instead of the girl who had the famous choreographer mom and was in High School Musical? She was so good!

Will: Must have decided that the dancing-while-wearing-as-little-clothing-as-possible thing works well for him. He doesn't need gimmicks though, because his solos are fantastic. All of the jumps and the flopping around was great (and looked a lot better than it sounds).

Kherington: I'd say that she's lucky that she's getting a free pass this week, because this solo wasn't particularly interesting. It didn't absolutely suck though, and it would have had to for her to be in any danger at all. In general, girl contemporary solos have been boring me to tears lately.

Twitch: Nice solo about a "mad conductor" that is based off a painting. How artistic, Twitch! Frankly, I just enjoy that he seemed to have put some thought into this solo instead of just jogging around, wiggling, or kicking up his legs.

Katy Perry is wearing a seriously short skirt.

Post solo observations:
Twitch and Will are definitely staying. As for the Jessica and Comfort, whoever makes it through tonight is most likely going to go next week anyway, because America hasn't taken to either of them. The only significance is that one of them won't be on the tour (unless they expand it to 12 dancers like I think they did last year). This stipulation has me convinced that Jessica will stay, purely so she and Will can perform the beloved "Adam and Eve" number on the tour.

The Results:
Comfort "really pulled it out with her solo"?! Really?! What was I watching? Jessica's been "absolutely stunning" in "at least one routine every week"?! Really?! Nigel's just blowing my mind here... (A translation of what he was babbling about is: they want the "Adam and Eve" number in the tour. They should just have the balls to say that.)

Why when everyone gets eliminated do they feel the need to tell us that "this is not it" for them and that they are going to continue dancing? Well, duh. We don't expect you to just pack it in and go get a real job.

I do agree with Nigel that it would have been nice to lose two girls tonight.

The best news out of all of this is that the partnerings will get mixed up next week and Will won't have to carry Jessica any longer. Whoever is her partner is going to have to really be on his game.
