Greek: Geek Chic

Greek:
"Pride and Punish- ment"

Highlights and play-by-play:

  • Wow, now Casey has to investigate her own crime. That's convenient.
  • Evan's looking dreamy as usual in his argyle sweater.
  • Can't believe Rusty's trying to impress this poor girl by bragging about his science grant.
  • Ashleigh's in Rusty's class! I was right; we are starting Ashleigh/Rusty! Bring it on.
  • Evan isn't happy that Casey (and Cappie) are "expecting [him] to be third wheel in [their] fantasy recreation of freshman year."
  • Not sure I'm on board with Casey's cardigan. Looks like something I'd expect to see Ashleigh wear.
  • Casey sounds a little hoarse.
  • Evan and Cappie are making a mockery of Amphora.
  • Ash (to Dale, when he's not trying to be funny): "Oh, I get it, you're being funny."
  • A "nerd auction," Ash? That's not insulting at all...
  • Beaver: "Casey, I'm ready for my bedtime story."
  • Casey: "I'll be back in 15 minutes. 20 if Beaver's fussy."
  • Oh, poor Katherine! Her barfing roommate is horrible.
  • Does Katherine know? Is she guilting Casey into telling the truth by being so nice?
  • Cappie using "My girlfriend's in labor at County General" as an excuse to cut in the drop/ad line.
  • Ha at Rusty's new hair and glasses. It's not bad though; the look's kind of working for him.
  • Dale: "Nice glasses, J.J. Have you figured out how Lost is going to end yet?"
  • With this hair, Rusty's giving off a bit of a Franco vibe (as in James or Dave).
  • Ha ha ha at Rusty's "geek chic" outfit.
  • Ash: "Work that sweater vest."
  • Hey, this girl was on Veronica Mars. Imagine someone from VM turning up on Greek... Anyway, mock-surprise aside, she was one of the angry sorority girls who stuck the Easter egg up Chip Diller's bleedin' bum, I believe.
  • So that geek chic outfit really worked? I was on-board with the hair and glasses, but the outfit is a bit Howard Wolowitz.
  • Can't believe Casey just told the Gamma Psi president about burning down the house. She should have at least gone to Katherine first.
  • Wow, it's hard to believe that Rebecca was just on Bones playing a former call-girl, huh?
  • That's the professor teaching the class about sex?!? And people want to take this class?!? And Evan wears his pink bow tie around campus?!? Kind of an unbelievable minute we're having here.
  • Serving drinks in the beakers and test tubes is cute.
  • Fisher has some nerve! Why is he even taking his girlfriend to the geek auction? They must not have the event labeled well.
  • Ha ha, Dale's auctioning himself off.
  • Dale brought in $50! Good for him!
  • Ha ha at Casey's reaction to the theater guy saying he'll be nude in "Hair."
  • Holy crap! Natalie slept with this theater guy to get him to fix the competition! Yeeesh.
  • Beaver: "I can't believe we missed the nerd auction! I've always wanted my own nerd!"
    Cappie: "There's always next year."
Beaver: "That's easy for you to say; you have Rusty."
  • Beaver: "When someone's a friend, you have to let them make their own mistakes. Like when you let me lick that battery. That was a mistake, but you let me make it. Three times."
  • See, that Evan Chambers is an evil genius. His plan got Casey and the ZBZs out of trouble in no time.
  • Cappie: "I was trying to give some to Rebecca...advice, that is. Give some advice to Rebecca."
  • Dale: "And that retainer comes out, if you know what I mean."
  • Uh, Dana has some rage issues. Yep, she is kind of off-putting when you first meet her; she's got that right. And, honestly, she's still kind of off-putting after you've known her for awhile.
  • Oh, Rusty/Ashleigh is so on. So on.
  • Katherine knew that Casey was bluffing with the score sheets (the real ones are still buried) but didn't call her on it.
  • Katherine: "Lifetime would make several movie adaptations and they'd probably hire some manish starlet to play me because I'm tall."
  • Aww, I hope Casey makes amends with Katherine. I don't want Katherine to feel so sad. Casey should at least get Katherine a room in the ZBZ house so she doesn't have to stay with that horrid, barfing girl.
  • Oh no! Next week, Ashleigh is dating Beaver! Ahahaha! I'll jump right off the Rusty/Ashleigh bandwagon for Ashleigh/Beaver!

Premiere Watch '08: Bones

Bones: "Yanks in the U.K."

So how excited was I when--for the first time in history--an episode of Bones aired that was not directly conflicting with the airings of one, two, or three of my favorite TV shows? Even better, the two-hour premiere of Bones was filmed on location in jolly old London.

There was a lot of like in this premiere episode, although I'll admit to tiring out a bit and losing some of my attention span during the second hour. These two-hour premieres are kind of exhausting. I guess I need to start getting back into prime TV-watching shape, because there will soon come a day when I'll be expected to plow through at least 3 hours of television a night. Petering out after 1.5 hours will not be an option.

Although I am an ardent London-lover, I think my favorite part of the episode was the goings on back at the Smithsonian. How adorable was that Clark guy, who--try as he might to avoid it--kept getting sucked into the personal sagas of the other lab workers? And then, of course, there was John Francis Daley, whom I love and adore. Who would have guessed that pathetic Sam Weir would now have two doctorates at such a young age?

Highlights and Funny Quotes:

  • I'm calling BS: British tabloids wouldn't censor out the heiress' boobs in the picture. The British tabs do not have any qualms about printing pictures of boobs.
  • Hodgins: "British slime--so much more proper than American slime."
  • I thought the Jeffersonian had top-notch security; how did Grayson get in?
  • Dr. Wexler: "But I shall check my diary to see if I killed her."
  • Cam: "But he is some kind of god...the best kind."
  • How come the ex-spouses never seem to want to sign the divorce papers?
  • Uh oh, a British bad boy royal named Harry...this is trouble ;-)
  • Why are they driving a car in London in the first place? Take a taxi or the tube. And, honestly, I don't remember ever seeing a London's street so uncrowded.
  • Booth: "The royals hate bastards."
Bones: "Only the ones who don't make king."
  • Grayson throwing Hodgins into the garbage truck.
  • Angela and Sweets' discussion about his anecdote about the Ninja Turtle toy and the neighbor boy. Sweets: "You're the gay neighbor boy."
  • Hodgins: "Did Angela's ex get off okay?"
    Cam: "Whoa, sorry?"
  • Booth getting headbutted. What is this, Shameless?
  • They are spending an awful lot of time at pubs and cafes next to the Thames. How did I miss those when I was in London? (Well, I guess it was January...)
  • Booth: "No, it doesn't make sense. People don't kill someone with a bone symbolically, even in England."
  • Can't Angela and Hodgins stay together and work on trusting each other? Does this have to be a now or never thing? Slow the break up train down, people. (I hate it when TV shows rush a break up like this.)
  • Grayson: "I heard you broke up with the small, angry man."
  • Clark offering to take Grayson to the airport and saying, "I just want to work at a regular lab." (I liked Clark; he was funny.)

Premiere Rating: 6.5/10

Wednesday is not Tuesday or Thursday :-(

America's Next Top Model:
This may be a sign of the apocalypse, but I think I've started to like Jaslene. At least I'm beginning to like her more than Renee and Natasha and Dionne. Not that that's saying too much. Poor Brittney. I had thought she was going to win this cycle, but after the disastrous Cover Girl shoot and the horrible go-sees, she was in a hole even her always-stunning photos couldn't get her out of.

Bones:
It must be astronaut week! I gotta say, after this week's episodes of L&O: CI and Bones, NASA and the astronauts are not looking too good. It's a dark week for the space program...

This episode was really funny though with all of the conspiracy theories. And I love Bones and Booth. They are adorable.

Bones is a great show. I wish it was not on at the same time as ANTM.

Oh and one thing I've noticed from procedural shows in general: boring people do not get murdered or go missing. The victims in these shows have the most complicated lives ever! Not only are these people ex-astronauts who are being blacklisted by NASA because they think they saw aliens, but they also have coral growing in their bones!

Lost:
Ugh. I guess I appreciated that this was a non-flashback episode and I didn't have to watch John Locke do yet another stupid thing in the past, but watching him do stupid things in the present isn't a whole lot better. Poor Sawyer. At least Locke was nice enough to warn him that the Others are going to come and take all the pregnant women.

I wish this whole fertility storyline had never happened. It's yucky. Especially since apparently the male fertility rate on this island is astronomical, so every time a man and woman have sex, the woman is getting pregnant, and, oh yeah, that's going to kill her. Great. Because all the women on this island except Kate, Sun and Claire haven't already been killed! Come on.

And seriously, Kate should have kicked Jack in the face at the end. He is such a loser. When exactly did he decide that he's so much better than everyone else? Oh wait, I guess he's always thought that :-P And Juliet is a pain in the butt. I do not understand why people like her.

Highlight:
Sawyer's "So your back from your blow-up-everything-that-could-possibly-get-us-off-this-island tour?"
