Greek: Undie Runners

Greek:
"The Half-Naked Gun"

Boy, it is a struggle to keep up with all of these new television episodes! I'm over a week behind on Greek!

Just a list:

  • Eew. I love Rusty, I do, but the idea of him having sex never fails to creep me out.
  • Ha at Ashleigh just calling Rebecca "you."
  • I didn't realize that this gotcha game was still going on.
  • Casey: "Last week my father said the world better watch out for me, and I'm thinking why? Because of my ability to name every guy Carrie Bradshaw slept with in season order?"
  • Ha ha, Rusty just got Calvin good in the gotcha game. Faking that he didn't know what the guns look like...that sly dog.
  • I enjoyed when Beaver, Cappie and Heath didn't believe that Rusty was still in the gotcha game.
  • Yea, Evan's back to wearing ties again. That means he's out of his rut. And he's looking cute--is his hair a little different?
  • Oh, Rusty, you're such a wimp. Just shoot Jordon and get it over with. Give me the dart gun; I'll gladly do it.
  • Evan: "You guys are watching Kate and Leopold? I love this movie!"
    Calvin: "Seriously?"
    Evan: "No."
  • Ashleigh (while Fisher is right next to her): "Oh, I totally get it. It is impossible to be around your ex. Why can't they just get the hint and go away?"
  • Cappie: "Kill her, then have sex with her! It's the Kappa Tau way! I didn't mean that."
  • If Rebecca doing the wet t-shirt contest during spring break was such a scandal, I can see why the sororities wouldn't want their members to do the Undie Run.
  • Jordan: "Rebecca, what are you doing here?"
Rusty: "Yeah, I thought vampires couldn't enter a house without the owner's permission."
  • It's kind of hard to remember the most recent Casey/Evan falling out. Was it over him buying off her date or was there more? I may have to check out some of my old posts for a refresher.
  • Really nice Matrix simulation by the KTs.
  • Ha ha ha! Evan's moonlighting as a waiter in another town.
  • Calvin: "I'd blow out my candle, but I can't breathe."
  • Rusty is really awful at this game.
  • Of course Casey's all gung ho about Undie Run--her skirt (or shorts?) is so short that running around in her underwear is really not that big of a jump.
  • Cappie: "Ok, maybe he can't shoot her, but he can outlive her!"
  • Cappie: "She went after you, Rus! Don't be Rihanna! Don't be that girl." (Oof, that one was pushing it.)
  • Who is Chicken Legs 2, by the way?
  • Cappie: "We haven't had a debate this lively since: what's the difference between a chipmunk and a squirrel?"
  • Three words, three syllables, 12 letters: Where was Dale?

NYC Gossip Girl "Sighting"

Hey there, TV lovers. Gossip Girl here with all the latest scoop on your favorite Upper East Siders (and Upper East Sider wannabes).

Spotted: B, N, S, D, C and J all hanging out and looking gorgeous in Times Square Monday morning. Who knew they travel in a pack now?

XOXO... Gossip Girl.

(Seriously, I was in NYC on Monday, but what stinks is that I was in Bryant Park, but Jennifer Garner and Violet were in Central Park. Crap. And to make matters more frustrating, apparently Tuesday in Bryant Park they filmed scenes from the Sex and the City movie. Where is my luck?)

Kyle XY: Hallucinating, Keclan, and skinny pants

Kyle XY:
Hmm, you can tell we're approaching the end of Kyle XY's summer season because things are getting intense and Kyle's striking out on his own to save the world for the good of the Tragers. I guess there weren't a whole lot of new revelations emerging in this episode, but it was interesting to see Kyle's inner battle about whether he owes Jessi his help. But, first things first:

Kyle's pants were really skinny tonight! When did Kyle get so trendy?

I liked how Kyle told Amanda that there wasn't anything physical going on between him and Jessi and she just decided to believe him without asking the obvious question, "Then why in the heck were the two of you lifting up your shirts in front of each other when I walked in the room?" Seems to me that she deserved some sort of explanation for that strange behavior.

Speaking of the lifting up of shirts and such things: I like Josh and Andy together, but watching them making out and groping each other was just awkward and kinda gross. Especially because Kyle and Amanda have been in love with each other for over a year and we've only seen them kiss like twice!

Speaking of Kyle and Amanda not kissing: Amanda is having a hard time deciding whether to go away to school or stay with Kyle and she decides to play the piano to help figure it out. Umm, how about you make out with your gorgeous boyfriend for awhile? I know kissing Kyle would sure help my decision-making process...

Speaking of illogical strategies: Lori's goal for her big revenge on Jessi is to ruin Jessi's reputation? Like, how could you make Jessi's reputation any worse? Everyone already thinks she's weird and creepy.

Speaking of weird and creepy: Back to Josh and Andy. I'm pretty sure he said that it was the last time he could touch "them boobs." Was that ridiculous grammatical error not worthy of doing another take on that scene?

Cool that Kyle now has the power to hallucinate himself having philosophical conversations with anyone he wants. Or, um, he's becoming schizophrenic. Unfortunately, all Dream Adam can do is ask questions and restate what we already know, which is not super helpful.

While Kyle clearly is more in control of his special abilities, I've noticed that Jessi has certainly surpassed him in the ability to express human emotion. This episode really did a lot for turning her fairly unsympathetic character into someone you really felt sorry for.

And back to the mythology... It was nice that Nicole and Steven finally realized that something is still going on with Kyle. I'm a little confused though why Foss can withstand the brain scan thing but the general consensus is that Kyle wouldn't be able to take it? I guess they're going to use it at a higher power, maybe.

Good quotes:
Amanda: "Kyle, usually the whole multiple question thing is cute, but I'm really struggling here."

Hilary: "The intensity of the Kyle/Declan friendship--we'll call it 'Keclan'--helped ruin the Lori/Declan relationship."

Declan: "You really want to run this metaphor into the ground, don't you?"
Lori: "It's what I do."
and boy is that the truth....

Greek:
I enjoyed Dale IMing Rusty while they were both in the same room, because the IMing-your-roommate-while-you're-both-in-the-room thing definitely does happen sometimes.

Other highlights were Clark Duke singing (rather well), the band name "Darwin Lied," Rusty asking what in the hell kind of show they were putting on (because I was also confused about that), and this rather astute observation about the strippers and their money:

Rusty: "Look where she's putting those bills!"
Other guy: "Which will be put right back in to circulation. By the end of the week it could be under some kid's pillow."

Yuck.

My Boys:
This episode was all right. It lost major points from me though with it's handling of the Mary Lou Retton leotard. Although I'm a hardcore gymnastics fan, I do enjoy a good gymnastics joke... but this scenario didn't result in any. They did do a good job of making fun of Brendan's behavior though (ex. calling him "Seacrest"). I thought it was kind of weird that they spent a good portion of the episode skewering Sex and the City, seeing as that's the show that comes on right after My Boys on TBS. I suppose that was the 'in-joke.' Some of the SATC spoof was pretty funny, especially how P.J. thought all of those women were horrible.

Oh, and didn't P.J. do the "player gets called up to the majors" metaphor before? Like, at least five other times? I've said it before: the voice over has got to go, folks.

But, the big news: Michael Landes is in next week's ep! Yea! I love Lois & Clark's original Jimmy Olsen! First Jeremy Sisto and now this! Score!

Voice-Over(whelmed)

My Boys:
Yesterday afternoon I found myself watching some of TBS's My Boys marathon (and, heaven help me, 1.5 Lifetime movies, but that's another story). The second season of My Boys begins tonight at 10 p.m. and all the Season 1 episodes are online, which is pretty cool.

At first, I was impressed with My Boys yesterday. The cast is funny and the writing isn't bad at all. It's not the edgiest or most revolutionary comedy ever, but it's fun. But then I remembered why I'd given up on this show last year: the voice-over.

The events of each episode of My Boys is put into the context of a baseball analogy via P.J.'s voice-over. Ok, we get it: she's a tom-boy. That's already obvious--you don't need to constantly remind us! And we especially don't need to hear the same freakin baseball analogy episode after episode.

I'm sick of the V.O. in general. Admittedly, some shows use voice-overs very well: Arrested Development, Sex and the City, Veronica Mars, The Wonder Years, early Desperate Housewives, etc. But now it seems like every show on T.V. is trying to use one, and that, my friends, is just really lazy storytelling. If the action and dialogue of a show are so confusing that a disembodied voice has to explain it to viewers, then the writers just aren't doing a very good job. And if, as in the case of My Boys, the action and dialogue of the show are rather self-evident and the writers add a V.O. anyway, then they're just hitting the audience over the head. Viewers are not that stupid. We watch Lost for crying out loud and that doesn't have a voice-over.

Season Finales, Season Finales Everywhere!

Grey's Anatomy:
Wow. This sure was one depressing hour and fifteen minutes. Where along the line did the people at Grey's get the impression that in order for a season finale to be good, horrible things must happen to all of the characters. Seriously, not a single person escaped this monsoon of badness. They might as well have had all the characters stand in a row and have people throw things at them :-)

Burke, Steamy, and Addison didn't get the chief job (and they all kind of got insulted in the process); George failed his test; Bailey didn't get chief resident; Alex realized his love for Ava about a half hour too late; George snubbed Izzy (yet again. Get some self respect, Izz); Derek and Meredith careened toward a break-up for no real discernible reason; Burke didn't marry Christina and disappeared; Adele lost her baby.

Actually, about the happiest thing that happened was that Adele losing the baby brought her and Chief Richard back together again...and miscarriages are not happy, folks. And those hikers...why were they even still around? And, better question, why was Derek interrogating them instead of the police? I love that his holier-than-thou attitude now qualifies him to be a detective. Can you tell that the doctor formerly known as McDreamy is on my last nerve?

Oh! Oh! Oh! I almost forgot about him telling Meredith that she should be worried that his flirtation with Bar Slut/Reunion girl/Mere's little sister was the highlight of his week! It is such a shame that Meredith was so wrapped up with the death of her stepmom, her best friend's wedding, and the most important test of her internship that she neglected her duty to entertain Derek! Poor, poor Derek. Perhaps Meredith should hire a clown to follow him around and keep him amused.

And speaking of whiny, middle-aged men....Burke does not get to leave Christina at the alter! The whole thing was his freakin idea!

One more thing that I didn't like about the episode was that the scene where Christina freaks out in her wedding dress looked exactly like Carrie Bradshaw's SATC wedding-dress-inspired panic attack.

Another thing that sucked was that the National Inquirer or whoever published all those Grey's spoilers turned out to be alarmingly accurate... so none of this crappy stuff was even a surprise.

Oh well, let's just hope that next season is better.

The Office:
Jam is on!!!!!!! Does anything else matter?

It's been days and I'm still glowing about "Pam, are you free for dinner tonight?" It's about freaking time, Halpert and Beasley. Now, let's just hope that next season we don't back track on the Jam like we did this year. I mean, honestly I thought Jam was on last year after the hot-office-Casino-Night kiss, but it clearly was not. This time, let's hope it sticks. I do feel a bit for Karen, but clearly Jim and Pam are made for each other...and Scranton (ouch, that part sounds like an insult). And Karen could be a bit of a jerk (telling Jim his hair made him look homeless, ordering Pam to photocopy their sales reports).

Poor Michael. Now he's stuck with crazy unemployed Jan living in his condo. Seriously, though, was Jan always this nuts and we just didn't realize it because she wasn't around that often and compared to Michael, no one is crazy? Or is it new? Because I never realized she was this deranged. I mean, dating Michael was certainly a tip off to some sort of mental instability...

And how cool was the "game changer"? (I love that The Office has stolen that terminology from the overly self-important Losties.) Ryan the temp is in charge! Good for him. See, getting that MBA does pay off.

And, of course, the episode was funny:

  • Dwight's reign of terror, complete with soil lectures and "Schrute Bucks" (and now, thankfully, we know that the correct ratio of Schrute Bucks to Stanley Nickels is the same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns).
  • Pam getting to be the secret Assistant to the Regional Manager for a morning.
  • Creed's "blog" a.k.a. a word document with a URL address typed at the top.
  • Michael calling his decision to take back the bigger-breasted Jan "emotionally magnificent."
  • Jim wanting to see the U.N. building while in New York and saying the last time he was in the Big Apple was a sixth grade field trip. Now that is just too freaking cute.
  • Andy working in a little more Cornell bragging. I'm never going to be able to take anything involving Cornell seriously again :-)
  • Oh and Beasley so totally pulls her comedic weight. Her "Maybe I'll find my own Karen" monologue ending with a slightly panicked "I'm not gay!" proclamation was adorable.

But, of course, what really matters is that Jam is on! Did I mention that?

Ugly Betty:

Ok, since when does UB get its plotlines from Days of Our Lives? It kind of seemed like they wanted something big and splashy for the finale, but couldn't quite come up with anything, so just threw in every somewhat trite storyline they could think of. Did Santos really need to be shot in a random convenience store hold up? Did Amanda suddenly need to be Fey's daughter? Did Henry's ex need to be knocked up? And, um, didn't Gilmore Girls do that whole storyline in season two? And didn't they do it a heck of a lot better?

Random question: Even provided that Alexis is so stupid that she didn't realize that after putting out a hit on Bradford, his car might not be the best vehicle to use to take her brother to the hospital, why, why, why does taking Daniel from the Mode office in midtown Manhattan to a hospital require her to drive on a very twisty road through a secluded forest? Are there not hospitals in Manhattan? Because there totally are.
